OAFE Podcast - Episodes

1. What is OAFE?

Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc. is a non-government, non-profit charitable organization that was established in 1991 to increase awareness of the agriculture and food industry by providing resources and programs for Ontario education. Through both government funding and membership support, we provide accurate, balanced and non-biased curriculum linked resources and information about agriculture, food production and rural issues in Ontario.

2. What does OAFE do?

OAFE promotes agricultural awareness by reaching out to the teachers who are ultimately responsible for teaching the next generation of consumers and the future of our province. We have a variety of products and services that we provide.

We develop curriculum linked resources, conduct teacher workshops, participate in agri-food education events, support fair and farm educational programs. OAFE promotes general agricultural awareness as well as to teachers. We are recognized provincially, nationally and internationally as a leader in the development of educational resources with Ontario agriculture and food as the main theme.

3. What is the OAFE PODCAST?

OAFE is enhancing the resources we offer by using new technology. A podcast is a method using an application such as iTunes to subscribe and receive files on a computer. These files can be a variety of formats. Some are video clips, while others are interactive games or information in PDFs and can be a combination of any or all the above. They become an interactive tool for teachers to further engage students.

4. Can I get involved in the podcast project?

Built into the Teacher’s Section of the podcasts there is a “Feedback” mechanism. You need to be on the internet in order to complete the feedback section. In this section, you are asked several questions and you answer through a rating system. There is also a space where you can enter your comments, observations and suggestions. Through this, OAFE will be able to tailor the podcasts to the needs of teachers.

5. What’s ahead?

New podcasts will be launched regularly throughout the year. As new podcasts become available, they will be promoted in our electronic newsletter ‘Update’ for teachers (Sign up for the newsletter from our OAFE homepage). If you sign up to our podcasts and open your iTunes, iPodder (Juice) or NetNewsWire you will see all the titles that are available for download (new or existing).

6. Why a podcast?

Technology is moving at lightning speed. Children are fast to adapt to these changes and crave new and exciting technology. A podcast allows us to send you large interactive files to use in the classroom. The episodes are curriculum linked and have interactive components that enhance the learning experience. New episodes will be made available often. Update your lessons with these interactive resources.

7. How can I use the OAFE podcast?

These podcasts are free to anyone wishing to download them. Activity sheets, games and other podcast materials can be copied and used as long as it is for classroom use. Any other purpose requires written permission from the Executive Director of Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc.

The podcast episodes can be burned to a CD/DVD, saved to a memory stick or another device such as an iPod for easy transport to your classroom.
